The Importance of Cattle Tagging: How We Keep Things Organized at Sawyer Creek Cattle
Tagging cattle is a critical step in modern cattle farming, ensuring proper herd management, record-keeping, and traceability. At Sawyer Creek Cattle, we take pride in producing high-quality breeding stock, which makes effective tagging essential for our success.
Why Tagging Matters
Ear tagging plays a vital role to ensure cattle are properly identified within a herd. It allows farmers to quickly reference animals, monitor health and breeding records, and trace origins in case of disease outbreaks or potential sales. Proper tagging supports not only day-to-day operations but also long-term goals for herd improvement.
Overcoming Challenges With Tags
Over the years, we’ve encountered ear tags that have fallen out, or get caught on something. Sometimes they fade beyond recognition. These issues can create confusion and frustration. To help ensure cattle are identified properly, registered cattle require a small tattoo in the ear.
Our Process at Sawyer Creek
To overcome these challenges and to ensure quick identification, we’ve adopted a reliable system. Each of our cattle are double-tagged to minimize the risk of identification issues. In addition, we photograph every animal twice a year to maintain updated visual records. This practice ensures we always have a backup, no matter what happens to the tags.
Why This Matters to You
When you purchase from Sawyer Creek Cattle, you’re not just getting premium grass-fed beef or top-notch breeding stock—you’re also benefiting from a system designed to ensure quality and accountability. Our tagging and tracking practices allow us to provide detailed records and stand behind our animals with confidence.
